Got Friday off and it's an area I've not explored before. I don't have a car so will be pedalling up from Huddersfield
Can cross over into that area either at Scammonden dam or via Outlane/Sowood
If there's not much going i may jump a couple of trains to Hebden instead
thanks ๐
Huddersfield to Scammonden - down the steep bit right by the M62 to the dam and cross to the other side. Up the dead steep bit to the bridge (or go under the M62 through the tunnel and then turn left to meet the road).
First left into a blocked off car park and pick up the BW which runs around the edge of the quarry (ace views over the stubborn farmer etc). Keep on here until a very obvious track going left and down to meet a lane. Down Cockpit Lane (bit churned up at the minute but super fast).
Right at the bottom of Cockpit Lane and when the road hairpins left, go right and through a stream to pick up the BW towards Barkisland.
After passing some houses, keep right and ride up Fiddle Lane BW (not nice but more pleasant than the road).
At the top head towards Barkisland and then onto Norland Moor. Drop down Norland Moor, right at the bottom and cross the bridge, keeping left as the road splits.
You'll get to a house on the right and BWs going left (towards the top of North Dean Wood) and right (towards the Sportsman pub). Go right and when you reach the road, cross over and down Cat Lane (good descent). At the bottom, turn right and meet the road between Greetland and Barkisland. Go straight over here and down a road into the valley bottom (little opportunity for a good descent into the valley on this side).
Pick up the BW that climbs up to above Barkisland Mill and turn left at the top and road section to Stainland.
Go through Stainland and veer right and the BW descent to the Deer Park. Big climb out the other side to Outlane and then home ๐
Beat me to it - more or less what I would have suggested. As you say DBW, cockpit is knackered at the mo - especially the lower end although top end is still fast. And I would rather climb up a bit of Rippy bank and turn right onto fiddle lane rather than climb the bridleway - it too is a bit knackered at the bottom for climbing (not so bad for descent!!)
Thank you, I've just plotted it all out and will give it a crack on friday. I've done cock pit and through (and up) fiddle lane before, but haven't done the quarry to start or any of the rest of it.
Looks like a good route and i'll end up with 35km total once you add in all the New Hey Road stuff I have to do to get there.
I'll carry lots of cake to get me round it
