[Closed] Anyone else suffer from tyre width envy?

Maybe it was being bullied when I was young by my mates with "proper" MTBs instead of Townsend ATBs with Halford 1.8 Farmer John copies on.

But I just can't let go of the need to have the fattest tyres I can get. I know that in the mud more narrow tyres grip better and cut through the sludge, but I just can't bring myself to go lower than 2.2s.

I've got an Orange Five so it's not like I have to prove my bikes authenticity anymore but I just can't surrender the feeling that any compromise on the MTBness nature of it is going to transform it into the rusty clunker I used to knock about on.

Anyone else suffer the same freakish anxiety or similar?

nope, but if I did I've got a DH16 2.5 that I could stick on (it'd probably fit on top of my 2.3 HR's!)

I feel the same. I have some 1.8 MudX in the garage that would be spot on at the moment but I keep kidding myself that they just wont do and am pressing on up muddy hills with a 2.35 Larson tt on the back pretending that the MudX wouldn't be able to do it any better.

25mm for me in winter Glen ;O)

You need help Matt ;O)

I was always after 1.95" for xc and now happy with fat 2.1 even in muddy conditions.

haha i used to have bigger tyre envy, nearest thing to thin is my stable is a 2.0 bonty mud which i'm nervous about. However, having done my first cross race at the weekend and trying to sail a fully clogged high roller 2.35 accross a sea of mud my faith is being tested...

We don't get proper mud like what you does darn sarf so skinny tyres are a no no. Especially when you are a fat knacker and clumsy. 2.35 Larsens, HR and soon to be swampies all the way. Skinny looks weedy and gay to me.

Just spent the morning playing in deep mud on 32mm. Mid calf in places. Not sure that anything is good in mud - hovercraft maybe?

2.4" Rubber Queens for me. Maybe I'm compensating for something.
