1st person to say ‘I’m not sure’ gets the Mr Predictable award.
Can I heck make my mind up.
I currently have..a full susser, a hybrid which I use as a gravel bike really, & an old (very old) HT. I’ve ordered an actual gravel bike cos the Sirrus is heavy & I fancied spending some dosh, but now I can’t decide whether to PX the Sirrus for a newer HT or do without a HT, keeping the Sirrus as a scruffy winter bike & just use the FS for stuff the gravel bike doesn’t like.
In other words, I can’t decide.
Also, what’s a barely used 2021 Giant Fathom 2 like for £750?
Right, what shall I have to drink…

If you have a FS and a gravel bike, I'd leave it at that.

I do still have a HT that I use for bikepacking (better load carrying than the FS) but other than that it's rarely used now

But but but..I’ve had a HT for over 30 years Colin!
Do I need a HT? I’ll probably do another bothy trip, so I’d need a HT.
See what I mean?

N=3 is the magic number. For me.

Steel FS bike
Steel HT (currently SS, but will borrow the gears off the FS maybe once or twice a year for more demanding bike packing.
1 gravel bike.

If you've always had a HT, you should keep one/replace with another.

You’re probably right, why would I need 2 gravel bikes? Even if one’s got flat bars.
The good news is I decided on what to drink.
G&T.

I’m 65 ffs, I shouldn’t be in this predicament!

solution,

sell the 30 year old triggers broom for scrap.

throw the shit orange in the skip, because you wont get a bottle of shandy for it.

donate the specialized to a bike charity.

buy a full sus ebike suitable for a old man.

buy a nice gravel bike, preferably in Ti.

and remember the most important lesson you will learn from all this.

money is for spending......nothing more. ;o)

My solution to too many bikes is to give them to people I think might use them, to do with as they will, except they can't sell or swap them, they have to give them back if they can't keep them. If they break, no worries, and they can bring it back for repair if they want.

This can be people who are outside the 'close friends' circle, but you know are having a hard time, financially or mentally.

I've done this to a couple of people who weren't bikers that now are, and only 1 bike has come back and then been passed on again.

It helps me with the emotional attachment to a bike that I used to use a lot but now don't anymore - I know its getting some use elsewhere, rather than sat in my shed, looking at me.

Are you sure ( 😀 ) that you are indecisive?  At your age you may have made a choice it’s just that you’ve forgotten

IN which case you've answered your own question 🙂

I had to read all the posts to remember what I'd written! 😂

money is for spending

I have budgets for multiple things Tony, not just bikes & not a bottomless money pit! 😪 (if only)

I'm 67, I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

I had a 27.5 HT & FS and a 700cc road/gravel bike. I grew to not liking the gravel bike for offroading - too limited if things get technical. So built a 29er rigid for gravel / bike packing trips with a view to selling either the gravel or 27.5 HT. But they each have their value in the venn diagram of bikes, so I MADE THE DECISION to keep them all. (Definitely wasn't a lack of decision of which to sell).

i thought id decided but im not so sure
howabout you give up with the analysis? and if youre forced into jumping on a bike at anytime, thats the way it goes.
invest the rest of your'decision making' time into doing nothin so ytou have energy to do it once you move
