I was concerned about the heat a few days back, now it's all looking rather wet and windy!

Buried in the FAQ page -

<u>Saturday 28 July – RMT strike action – Cycles on South Western Railway services:</u>

RMT union strike action on Saturday 28 July means that our services will be severely reduced and capacity on our trains will be limited. As a result, we are unable to carry full-sized bicycles on our services, and we ask cyclists not to attempt to travel with their bikes, as we cannot guarantee we will be able to accommodate you.

However, anyone with a valid ticket for Saturday 28th will be able to use their ticket on Friday 27th, Sunday 29th or Monday 30th.

We are aware that some cyclists taking part in Sunday’s Prudential Ride London event are only able to travel on Saturday 28th. If you turn up at one of our stations on the day, while we will do our best to accommodate you, we can’t guarantee that your bike will be accepted on the train as space will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. You will not be able to board with your bike if there is no space for it to be transported safely.

Please note – bicycles cannot be carried on rail replacement buses under any circumstances.

my   plan  is  to  ride  / ferry  / ride  to portsmouth and southsea . yes , its   5 miles in the wrong direction but  the trains  start  from there. Hopefully  I will be  the only wally   trying to get to london with a full sized bike at 10am tomorrow  morning .  if this fails  i will abort  and  go up to register as a foot pasengr, then return home . i am lucky enough to have a sister  who lives  in croydon so will go to hers early evening and then drive  the 19 miles   sunday am and park in the docklands  ncp  car park.

bummer  is its 12  miles  out  from the finish and i will be riding at  1400.. ... .... in the  pouring rain

Around 5:15 for me, which I'm happy with considering I punctured and was aiming at 5:30. Didn't take a rain jacket and wasn'tcold on the ride but really shivering now.

Good work - done too. 5:45. Pleased with that - would have liked 5:30, but pee stops and pedestrian crossings put paid to that...!

Was good fun - looks like I've got dead man's feet though!

Well done to anyone who finished. Had to withdraw due to illness. Rain looked heavy and sustained. Not as bad as the year they closed the climbs and shortened the route.

Sad not to have ridden, but not too sad.

On way back now after replacing 20 plus tubes, a few tyres and assorted minor mechanicals as part if Evans' E-Team rider support guys. That heavy backpack of spares didn't stay heavy for long. A really rewarding day for me, maybe more so in this weather. Plenty of riders toughing it out after 4, 5 or more flats. Not a good day to be hanging about at the roadside in a ss jersey with a mechanical either. Hope you all finished full of air and feeling ok!

Got round in just over six hours, it was so so wet!

I didn’t even get to go up Leith Hill, diverted off due to an accident apparently. Another rider told me he got diverted around Leith and Box! Hope everyone is ok.

Well done Jameso - you and your team were certainly apprciated today. Saw loads of punctures - some guttingly in the last mile or so. Chucked my spare and CO2 to one so hopefully they made it home. Paying back karma for avoiding any during my ride.

Cheers again,

Rich

WAs a fantastic day, 4 punctures and one 5 miles from the end. Rode in on that flat.

Unfortunately someone stole my bike as I was getting a burger 🙁

Anyone sees a scrote riding a white Trek Domane please run him over

@jolmes sorry to hear that.  Will keep an eye out around East London. Also 4 punctures would test anyone's resolve (I was frustrated enough fixing one with the rain!). So I  hope the "fantastic" wasn't sarcastic and you really did enjoy the ride at least.

Wasn’t sarcasm, really awesome day until the theft, so much support from the crowds. Managed to get round in 5 hours 55 despite the punctures so I’m happy with my time 🙂

5.50 for me . No punctures or incidents , a few hold  ups  for  pedestrian crossings . Felt really good after  inhaling half a malt loaf after  Newlands and  kept on top of the fuelling from there in . Great run back after  the Wimbledon bump with a guy with an awesome red  beard and a ride  marshal who did  zero marshalling and  rode like a man possesed. So wet though , apart from the last  10 miles or so from Kingston. The run in seemed busier then previous years  , I   think alot of people   diverted  to the 46 .

Saw  one girl riding the 100 in a white cotton T -shirt , hope  she got round OK with out  getting  chilled

@ Jolmes . That  sucks . I hate people who do nasty stuff  like  that

Elapsed time 7:15, riding time 5:58.......type 2 fun a lot of the time, although closed roads and group surfing from Putney back to London was definitely type 1!

I was Safety Captaining, and helped fix 4 punctures (none mine) including one arse who stopped me and asked if I had a spare tube. Which I happily gave up as I was carrying 4 spares thanks to Continental furnishing us with plenty to hand out. He then took the tube off me and asked if I had a pump too. And some levers. Who sets out to do RL with no tools or spares. Apparently 'his mate' had them all - where's your mate then?  Don't know..... grrrrr.

We also had a long hold up at the foot of Leith; a couple of my clubmates also RSC'ing were first responders to the incident there and it was very serious - thanks to most of the riders who realised quickly and made the best of the stop, although there's always one who mivers on about why they have to close the road.

And there was apparently another on Box which meant we were diverted along the A24, shame but no bad thing and with the wind behind I had a lovely line behind me as we buzzed along at 40kph.

Last moan, at the group of riders on the narrow lane coming off Leith to Westcott. When everyone else has pulled in to the left and stopped to allow marshall's cars to come through, sitting behind it like it's your tow back to the peloton is taking the piss. At least one Dynamo rider..... again part of getting through a day like today is being in it together.

That was brutal. Was in the first wave  but wasn't feeling it and kept on getting spat out the back, so ended up soloing it for the majority of the ride. Rolled in with a 5.10 time.

Went tubeless, which gets a big thumbs up from me as I got no punctures at all.

Really sorry to hear about the bike theft. 🙁

Sorry about the bike getting nicked!

I left mine lying around at the end but unfortunately it was still there when I got back and I may have to ride it again. 🤔

Big thumbs up to the RSCs on the course too - great idea, and clearly had a good bunch doing it. Seemed to deal with the odd knobber in a very calm (and authoritative) manner.

Thought that most riders we're decent sorts - seemed to get a bit sketchy past Esher (?) when the 19 milers seemed to filter in (or could have been the 46ers) and weave about the road a bit.

Sorry to hear about your bike @jolmes - that's shocking.

yeah, sorry - my post looks like a whinge. 99% of the riders out today were great, well behaved, in good spirits despite the rain and wind. I was actually quite impressed by the standard of riding, I asked a few if they wouldn't mind using the left so faster riders didn't undertake them but in the main I thought it was pretty good.

Curiosity got the better of me and wrote a Python script to dump all the results from the website (seems you can't just download them all in one go :/).  However, it seems the results are contaminated in a few cases by people taking shortcuts but the timing chips system not detecting it.

Anyway for the similarly curious here is time against percentile for '100 miles' with everything below 3:40 removed.

@Tiger6791 yeah 4:57 is a solid time (around 6th percentile).

I was still >20mph average after Leith Hill but had 5:30 in mind so eased off.  Then I punctured towards the end and spun the rest around 50psi.  Sub-5 for 2019 ... ballot opens 6th August!

Finished the full 100 in 6.5 hours on my Inbred, got a few odd looks that I was a non-roadie in the first waves, but glad I lied about my ETA when applying and got an early start. There was no way I could grab any of the chain gangs whizzing by, so I just stuck to the left and ground it out. A brutal day, never seen as many crashes and punctures in an event before. Feeling for the ones that suffered.

Anyone see the chap on the fat bike? Think he was a relatively early starter. Passed him on Box Hill - he was making good progress!

My first one, loved the closed roads and relatively flat course which meant you can hammer most of it. But what a hassle having to go to the excel the day before and then make your way back to Stratford after the mall finish. They could easily post out the numbers etc Not doing it again cos of the faff, the expense and basically taking up the whole weekend.

Well that was as hard as nails. Anyone who completed - really well done.  I started to cramp up on Leigh Hill and basically managed to survive until the end, coming in 4hr6min.  I'm still washing grit out of my eyes

4:55 for me, was really impressed by the standard of riding, only had to tell one guy who was weaving badly, and asked one chap to turn his rear light off, as he thought it reasonable to have a sun on his seatpost. Why do people do that!?

Enjoyed it on balance, but found the middle third really miserable; cold, wet, it seem to have splintered totally so ended up riding with my RSC partner and no one else!

The organisation was stellar I thought, really impressed with the whole thing. Bit gutted the weather broke, but once you're wet, you're wet and it didn't matter too much!

Well done to all who finished.

once you’re wet, you’re wet

and I was wet.....

But it only really bit for the long stop at Leith and another puncture stop while a guy used my kit. I learned my lesson there; change it myself - faster and you're still keeping warm!

Didn't want to say until 'confirmed' but of course my clubmates knew at the time

To the bloke complaining about the road being closed. Go and **** yourself.

I think that tells my story pretty well!

On for a sub 5 as hoped for but 2 punctures on Box hill with only one tube and glueless patches that refused to stick in the wet conditions mean't I was standing around and thinking of how to abandon when a good Samaritan stopped and gave me a tube. Thanks so much who ever you were.

Finished in 5:31.

I really enjoyed it, thought it was really well organised and a good atmosphere. It's expensive  for anyone not living local (over £3 a mile cycled when taking everything into account!) but I'd definitely do it again.

Very sad about the chap on Leith Hill, hadn't heard that. Being slightly callous it's always a high likelihood any time you have a large group of people engaging in physical exercise beyond what they'd normally do.

You'd think - the reality is that if you took 25,000 people from across the same age range that do Ride London, but who don't do physical exercise, and sat them on their sofa and observed for 5-8 hours I'd be surprised if it wasn't a higher number in that group.

Exercise is good for us, even if this happens occasionally. Ride on Nigel.

5:32 for me. Was aiming for 5 hours, but with volume of people and how slippery the roads where I realised that wasn't realistic.

Stopped to help a guy who wheels just went from under him coming down after Leith Hill, thankfully he was only shaken, but I spent a little time retrieving his stuff and making sure he was ok.

Really enjoyed the day and would like to return in the dry. Next time I won't forget my water bottles when setting off from York. Had to make do with 500mm ones, so stopped a couple of times to refill.

Talked to lots of nice people of different nationalities.

A group of us on Facebook raised some money for food and drink after the ride, and there was enough left over to hire a masseuse. That was great, and we had a place to get out of the rain too.

The guy who died on Leith was the father of a girl that was part the Facebook group. She was on the ride too. So sad.

Should've pushed on, I was down to about 19.5 mph at Box I think, so you were significantly quicker than me!

just managed a sub 5 but I did miss Leigh hill....no great loss as
a) I was bloody freezing
b) I'm from up North were we have proper hills :-p

Between registration on Saturday and riding to the start and back Sunday I was approx 160m for the weekend.
Was a hard a wet ride, was hoping to blast around but the rain limited the drafting potential.

Really busy when the routes joined so the run into London was a little slower that I hoped but still massive fun.

Might try again next year and hope from better weather 🙂

But what a hassle having to go to the excel the day before and then make your way back to Stratford after the mall finish. They could easily post out the numbers etc Not doing it again cos of the faff, the expense and basically taking up the whole weekend.

Posting stuff out means it gets lost, stolen, claims it never arrived and also offers no guarantee of rider ID.

Going to collect it means they can verify your ID, they can run a nice little expo area, get all the sponsors there and sell things!

Why did you have to go back to Stratford after finishing? And even if you did, it's only about 5 miles across town! The times I've done it I've always stayed with family in south London, ridden to the start then once finished popped up to Rapha in Soho, they usually put on breakfast for RCC members and then ridden back to south London. Easily done with a bit of an eye on the logistics.
