Bought a Met Parachute helmet (Xc-lid with jaw-bar) a couple of years ago.
Have mostly done DH with proper full face helmets since but this year I will do quite some AM/Enduro riding.
Looking at the Parachute and the jaw bar I must say it looks a bit weak and most of all brittle.
What happens with in a proper face plant?

Please share your horror stories!

I know one person who's life was saved by one of them.
I know another person who was killed when the jaw bar broke and was driven back through his teeth puncturing the roof of his mouth and driving through his brain.

Following comments will range somewhere between these two. ๐Ÿ™‚

Smashed my face into a tree and faceplanted in my old parachute, the first time it deflected the hit, the second time the jaw bone bit snapped, but my beautiful face was unscathed. Good helmets, will probably get another one (eventually broke it completely)

A friend has a large scar on his chin from where the jaw piece flexed, broke and dug in... would "probably" have been worse without it though.

He now almost always rides with e Specialized Deviant.

plenty of times, my face is the same as when I started.

It worked however to post in this thread you should be able to post a pic of yourself wearing said lid!!

Looking back I'm amazed how narrow those bars look.....

I've hit the deck several times over the past 3 years, many of which face first - my face is also still intact. I would buy another.

Slid face first down the rocky descent at Hobson moor, one of those 'pleeeeese make it stoppppp' moments..
Scuffed face guard but intact face, ๐Ÿ˜€ not worn it since I moved to Essex though....

Hit the deck in mine from about 10 feet up a few years ago. No damage to face bar a tiny cut to the underside of my nose (probably caused by the chinbar moving) but I think my arms broke the fall (and the fall broke my wrist).

They are still one of the most hideous pieces of equipment I've seen though

I think you've answered your own question there... if it looks brittle and weak then it probably is ๐Ÿ™„ I think the MET Parachute is a great XC lid with a chinbar suitable for protecting the riders face in the event of a minor face/ground meeting... but it aint no DH/AM/Enduro riding full on hit the ground at race pace full face helmet.
