Does anyone use either of the above in lieu of a towbar mounted bikerack?

Wondering how they fare in terms of versatility, stability and security in comparison to a conventional towbar bikerack.
We've some Thule roof mounted carriers (951) which look like they can be mounted on these, and am wondering whether this might be a more versatile (and potentially cheaper ) option than a dedicated bikerack.

I did look into it and the roof mounted carriers can't be used on the easy base, which seems a bit of a shame. Though it does mean they get to sell you the easy base specific bike mounts. Still quite tempted as it does look a pretty versatile solution.

A little bump. Anyone else have any experience of these?

I had one, its big, very big....and heavy.
I had the dedicated Thule cycle mounts on it.
I prefer to put the rack in the boot when parked, as lets face it
the Thule locks would be easily defeated, and this meant that I had
to have the back seats down to fit it in the boot, thus showing the whole world the contents of my boot*
Stored it in the hallway at home so it took up a lot of room.
Pretty robust though.

*Im originally from Bristol, so im a bit fanatical about car security.

Aah, hadn't realised that the Easybase could only used dedicated accessories- I started looking at the Bak-rak Base-rak which seemed the same concept, and said it could take roofbar bike carriers, and foolishly assumed the Thule would be the same....

Revs, is there any difference between security on the Easybase and on any other rear mounted rack? the thule is a bit weighty isn't it.

Not really, I ended up with a Thule Euroway G2 that would fit in the boot quite easily. That had a lock built into the handle, but nothing of any decent quality, hence why I wanted it to fit in the boot.
I really was surprised at how big the easybase was.

Iv got a Bak-Rak fitted with 2 cheap roof carriers. Mine fits to the ball with a 19mm bolt and a locking wheel and a key lock.
They are heavy but is very stable when fitted I drove up to Scotland from manchester last year and it was fine doing 70mph ish most of the way with 2 full sus bikes on it.. I was a bit unsure about them before I got mine but as I only payed £35 off eBay it was worth a try and has been fine. They also sell an extra bit so you can put 4 bikes on to the rack but not tryed it. Only thing I don't like is you can not get in to the boot of the car with bikes fitted (no tilt).

For got to add I removed the racks and used the base to take a dish washer to the tip. They seem very strong.
