They are good for showing some very nice trails but I still use an OS for navigation.

I know bothy bikes have route maps - likely to be able to give you some local knowledge / advice as well. Dunno if they are the same maps.

I do own them and have used them over a few years. They are worth the money since they do give you 'leads' on where the trails are but thats just my opinion. They are very out of date since there are loads of new routes but usually in the same areas as the old ones. The down side is where trails are underused and have become over grown. Tore Hill is imprinted on my mind as being totally over grown and unrideable. It would be true to say they are more of a guideline than a guide. There will still be a lot of route finding with them but you will have an idea where to look. The area is vast and finding the good trails is hard although you are surrounded by them. Cant see the trails for the trees so to speak.

I go to the aviemore area for a week every year so I speak from personal experience.

TJ. They are the same maps. Bothy bikes will help to a point but much more so talking over the maps you have just purchased. Fairy snuff.

gusamc.
If you are staying in Grantown. Ride the route from there over to Boat of Garten, nice views. The forest round the back of Boat of Garten is good rideable stuff all they way to Aviemore. Loch Garten, Abernethy forest (not Tore Hill), Ryvoan pass(which is easy)are all good areas with views, views, views.
Generally its all good stuff with a mixture of Fire track and single track when you find it. If you see bike treads follow them and see where they go. Bothy Bikes will also be delighted to help you with this kind of route.

One of those maps shows the location of the XC course at Badaguish which we aren't allowed to discuss on this forum as it'll encourage folk to ride there ๐Ÿ™„

Bought those maps last year when we were staying nearby from Bothy Bikes and they also gave good advice on where to ride and what to expect. Did the ride that Stabilizers described above which was a really good route also spent a very wet day riding the Burma Road from Aviemore.

Great, bought ours from Bothy Bikes. Enough info to have a good time (but don't forget Lairig Ghru!).
