Hello a mate is intrested in the 9.8 or 9.9 trek hardtail, any owners on here who would like to comment on ride quality or show some pics of the build. He is looking for a frame for xc races and some enduro racing, looking to see how comfortable they are.All info welcome especially on the BB90 bottom bracket is it easy to get the bearings?
the only review we can find is this one

I have used the Trek 9.8 as a XC race bike for years. still one of the fastest, nicest hardtails ever.
Admittedly the latest i've had (and just about to sell) was a 2005, but still awesome ride.
Used mine primarily for 24hr races and even solos. Back end can be a bit harsh for long rides and a suspension seatpost has settled this right down. For shorter rides the thomson post is great.
Veyr fast, very quick to accelerate.
mine has a bit of an XC geometry, so makes riding the peaks a bit tricky, but for woods and other trails its awesome!

I'm gutted to be selling mine, but i'm on a strict one in, one out basis and I've just taken the plunge for a Scott Spark FS.

I had a 2009 9.8, was extremely nippy, fast rolling and felt quicker through corners than a Scott Scale 20. Was dubious about getting a Trek mountain bike, but went for it and thoroughly loved it... Till it got stolen 2 months ago. But yeah, IMO the 9.8 was a brilliant bike. As for the bottom bracket, never had a problem with the sealed bearings. In my experience they were a bit tricky to get a hold of, though that was partly through sluggish response from my local bike shop. Overall id say awesome bikes, I was greatly surprised!

Loving my 9.9. Had a 2009 but it snapped, Trek replaced it in a week and even paid for it to be built up by the dealer. Excellent service.
