Bottom nut on u-turn leg does not tighten hard like the pure damping side, but instead does up and then turns the u-turn nut and the legs start to shorten. Is this usual?

might be a throwback to the old forum where you needed to reply in order to monitor what was posted. I think he has the problem rather than knows the answer.

Wind the u-turn down to the shortest setting then tighten it.

Thanks, done that, wound down and tightened, any tighter would have cracked the plastic uturn knob.
