Having problems reinstalling the compression adjuster on my Pike RCT3s after it came loose on a ride last night. I wasnt sure which setting the forks were in so found instructions to use a 15mm socket to turn the compression cam all the way open before reffiting the lever. The problem is there is nothing on the cam for the socket to grip onto. I'm a bit uneasy about using pliers to try and grip the cam and do any damage but really need to get this fixed as I have 24/12 next weekend followed straight away by a weeks riding in Wales.
Any help or advice is very much appreciated as stress levels are rising.

Trial and error? There's only 3 settings and you'd probably be able to tell if it was in locked, leaving you only two to test. Pop it on and see if you get 3 clicks or 2.

I did try that but if I do the lever up reasonably tight then it won't turn, or too loose and obviously the lever won't engage with the cam. Just thought it was odd that the instructions say to use a socket but mine has nothing to grip onto.

There's not much surface to grip the cam, I think when I did mine it mentioned about using a suitably sized cone spanner.

As above, I used a cone spanner and it worked ok. I dont think the seating of the actual dial is that important, it depends where you want the start and end of the 3 clicks to be. Just be careful the knob does butt up against the top of the fork leg in the closed position, the paint seems to flake of very easily on Pikes.
