I'm rather hoping inspiration will arrive over lunch. I think the second word ends in "N" But I'm a bit flummoxed today. My first entry was on Saturday so I don't know what I'm missing.

Yeah got the same last letter.

Friday was 26 across, which is an easy one, you will be able to get it without the picture clue.

As for the first 3 days I have no idea...

There is a list of names but none seems to have a 5 letter 1st name.

Glad its not just me.

Day off today and I have just spent the last 3 hours researching the travels of " Robert Falcon SCOTT cov."
Seeing who went out with him and came back.

You would not believe the amount of people with 8 & 10 letter surnames.

i haven't give up yet...... but am class
Just off to repair a puncher and hope for some insertion.

For Gods sake look after my people (Robert Falcon Scott 17 march )

*BigJohn*I think the second word ends in "N" you must ave 19 down then

Its gonna be dificult now - I'm being picked up at 8:30 tomorrow for a weekend biking trip in the lakes, and it looks like tomorrow's going to be the 1,11,3 that I've got no idea on, and I'll have to try and find an internet cafe in Kentmere to log on and enter the bonus clue (which I'm pretty sure I,ve already worked out) on Saturday.

Should I cancel the trip to make sure of getting my entry in?

Duh! It's easier when you wake up and realise 1,11,3 aren't the length of the words!

Who won then?

I dunno, but the poor sod's going to get a perfectly good Genesis SS bike pimped up with bling by Superstar Components, who according to the Alpkit website are ' are known for their brake pads .... so they will throw a few sets of these in to keep you safe on the trails.'

Yeah, as it happens, I know a little bit about Superstar's brakepads. 'Safe on the trails' wasn't the expression that sprung to mind when I had a couple of sets of them.

Anyway, thanks to Alpkit for all the fun over the first 19 days of December. I think I worked out all the answers myself though I wouldn't have got the 'mountain village' one if I hadn't ridden up & down Snowdon in October (a ride which, coincidently, featured a brake pad related incident from a certain aforementioned company)
