for a guy at work. He's been looking at a Spesh Hardrock Sport disc for £499 & a Giant Talon 29er, or a Revel?
He's a big lad at 6' 6" so I suppose a 29er would suit. Only general bridleway use, nothing very tech.
Ta muchly.
Unbelievable that I've had to bump this one!

Check Paulscycles.co.uk out for any deals. Doubtful you'll get a 29er cheap, but they've usually got lots of last season bargains.
Triton cycles are doing k monkeys for about £600. well worth paying that bit more. ss tho, ideal for work and pootles.
Got similar challenge myself. Need a cheap second bike to keep away from home - working abroad a lot and can't ride so need a cheap bike. May as well try something different so want a 29er for under 600 quid. Best I have found is Voodoo 29er from Halfords. Keeping an eye waiting for the inevitable sale at the moment...
well, thanks for those replies folks but I can't believe that I get 6 posts & a black pudding thread gets 81!
Priorities I suppose, or are there not many bikers on here?? 😉
Rockrider 8.1 good value. Might not be big enough though, even in xl. I have ridden an xl 8.2 for 5 years, good bike for me (mostly Surrey Hills, a bit of Wales and USA). I am 6'2.
Specialized make bigger sizes - I would be happy with one of their hard tails. Also look on Canyon website for 29ers. Not sure they are that cheap though.
FFS we could possibly recommend you a fork at that price point but a whole ****ing bike...what do we know about riding cheap tat what with our brand new Orange pros 5's and other such dandyhorse steeds
