I'm recovering from a slipped disc and interested in the claims SQLab make for their "active" saddle system which allows a side to side rocking motion of the back of the saddle, and therefore your hips, as you pedal...

SQlab's active saddle technology enables a physiologically correct movement of the pelvis. A round pedalling motion is achieved which provides for reduced pressure to the lumbar spine and facet joints. This can contribute to less fatiguing and prevention of pain in the lumbar spine.

Their saddles aren't cheap, so I'm looking for any experiences - particularly from back pain sufferers - before I splash out on one? Thanks.

I had the 610 saddle for a while, not the active version, but I assume the basic shape is the same. I found it odd to begin with as they are a slightly unusual shape, but I did get used to it up to a point. It seemed to want to slide you forward all the time, I had to spend a long time adjusting the position (tilting it back mainly) to stop that feeling which possibly negated some of the claimed biomechanical benefits.

I never got really comfortable on it in the end, so took it off in favour of a more traditional saddle shape! If you weren't in Oz I'd offer to send you it to try, I've still got it lying around 🙂

Thanks for that thought Woody, but yes too far away! I've heard of others with the same problem of slipping forwards, and some who've eventually got used to it. Anyway I'm particularly interested in the rocking motion of the active models and the claimed relief on the discs, as that's where my back problems are. May just have to order one to try...
