Just heard the driver of a car that hit me, as I was cycling to work, wasn't insured for it. Police taking care of the legal bits and they have pointed me to Motor Insurers' Bureau (www.mib.org.uk).
Any experiences?
I got a trip in a wonderful ambulance and great care by Sheffield Northern General Hospital A&E staff, some neck and elbow x-rays which showed a cracked radius. Needed a new rim and lacing in of my Nexus hub. Jacket took most of the abrasion damage from the road, helmet lost a big wedge at the temple.
I got hit in March 2004, being dealt with (or not) by the MIB, not seen a penny yet, and not likely to for another 4 months 🙁 They have offered me some money recently, but it was insulting and people with much lessor injuries have got more.
Police where unhelpful with me.
It really depends on how you deal with it, got taken in by solicitors and am waiting for full injuries and damage to bike pay out.
In hinesight, i would have asked for the damage to bike to paid for straight away and other bits, then settle the personal claim later.
BTW i broke both radial heads, hand and injured shoulder. Don't rush things as i still have problems and had surgery on the elbow and shoulder last year, hence one of the reasons its dragging on.
I've heard of people getting paid out - albeit after quite a while
Take him to the small claims court too
You will get paid out and its at a a similar value to a claim against an insured person. All claims take ages in my experience, wasnt any longer through MIB but this was quite a while ago.
Hope your OK.
Do as much as you can to help yourself, photo's of damge, the road, detail details details...
Dekerf: sounds long and drawn out, I hope you get a result soon.
I feel lucky, grazes mostly healed, elbow movement nearly back to normal, bike should be ready early next week. Waiting on the helmet replacement to arrive from Met.
Looks like I'll need a proper receipt from Butterworth's for the repair!
I'm only looking to cover the damage, bent wheel and specs, nothing a doctor needs to write about I don't think.
Mine will be sorted and i got off lightly (well not as lightly as car driver, who got off scott free, thanks plod)
Get listed full repairs to bike, and make sure they miss nothing, even if minor damage.
As for yourself i would go for some damages, because of the pain and suffering, and that will be for the rest of your life, even if only minor discomfort. Its what we pay insureance for. Hopefully plod will do something with him.
Yep, PC not happy given the run about by driver (driving a car not insured for). Proceedings under way.
Levenes Solicitors are dealing with my case from this time last year, got hit by an uninsured driver. I've been for the medical exam and I'm awaiting to hear from the solicitors.
I don't expect to hear anytime soon but I can say that I'm glad I got a solicitor involved straight away - they do all the work for you.
TPTcruiser,
Just received a letter from the solicitors this morning, the MiB are offering me £2200 to settle the case with an uninsured driver, plus I won't have to pay any fees...
The case has been settled in less than a year.
