It has struck me that I haven't got any spares "in stock" for my new XTR trail brakes. Shimano replacements are pretty expensive, although I do accept that I've bought XTR so I knew what I was getting myself into!
Have any of the usual cheaper pad companies started making finned pads yet?
surely fins only "needed" if you're in the alps or somewhere, not for everyday UK riding (without uplift) ?
Make some out of kit-kat wrapper and pritt stick them to normal pads.
the design is patented (mad as it sounds as to me as it's so obvious I thought it would have been done before or in a similar situation) so I doubt anyone will make any.
Superstar told me they had XTR shape pads in the pipeline, but not specifically finned ones, I must admit I didn't ask as I want normal ones.

Actually you are probably right. I might try some non finned ones from superstar or equivalent and see if I notice any difference.

the friction material/backing plate bond failing might be the clearest difference ๐
