Prevention is better than cure
I had a three bikes nicked from my shed in four months back in 2002/3. I thought enough was enough and bought a Kryptonite New York Noose, which I had to import from America.
There's no way of knowing how many times it has prevented a theft (if any), but that's the nature of security products.

I also have a pair of X-Lite Camlock Wheel Skewers, which fend off the opportunist. They have lasted me six years and have been fine for XC use (although the front one is beginning to slip now, so may have to replace it soon).

Tracking systems are pretty tricky to install successfully on a push-bike because there's no power supply like there is on a motorbike or car.
