Giant are launching the ToughRoad SLR GX next month in the UK.
There are 4 models, all can take up to 29er 2.2" tyres and tubeless. Very interesting

Shame most of the range is hybrid cable-hydraulic brakes and the only one that isn't, is Sram (tried their double-tap gear system for over an hour and couldn't stand it).

But 2.2" tyre clearance is an improvement for a drop bar adventure bike, only minor niggle is why prevent the common width of 2.35"?

Gravel Road? That's perfect for Buckinghamshire's normal roads.

And next year

But 2.35" tyre clearance is an improvement for a drop bar adventure bike, only minor niggle is why prevent the common width of 2.5"?

And 2019

But 2.5" tyre clearance is an improvement for a drop bar adventure bike, only minor niggle is why prevent the common width of 2.8"?

And 2020

But 2.8" tyre clearance is an improvement for a drop bar adventure bike, only minor niggle is why prevent the common width of 3.0"?

I can't imagine wanting to ride the gnarliest of trails with drop bars, I'm looking for a frame to build something similar and wouldn't bother going above 2.1/2.2.

Just the kind of bike I want really, proper 2.2 clearance (for xc tyres, any bigger/gnarlier would use a normal HT), but sizing for drop bars. 40mm+ clearance on current bike is fine, just still a compromise off road.

Wish they did a frameset only, and with 2 sets of wheels it'd be ideal.

Yes they do, the original RX9/S was much cheaper than these

For a catalogue frame with fairly low level componentry the RX9 was always overpriced. If ever anything sold on the brand name alone it was the RX9. Still, fanbois be fanbois.
