Found a decent deal for a compressor but does anyone know if a 6ltr capacity is sufficient with 1.5hp and 5.7 cfm?
Tried ghetto's and I'm not a fan and also dont fancy a 24 ltr compressor due the size.
Cheers
I use a 6ltr tank for tubeless. It's the initial 'rush' that you need to seat a tyre, actually being able to deliver that in the longer term seems largely irrelevant - id there's no seal after a few seconds it needs more soapy water or the tyre bead hooked more onto the rim.
6ltr will limit what other tools you can use with it though due to the relatively low cfm you get.
Sometimes a bigger receiver helps- if you've got a badtempered tyre being able to keep some pressure up while you fanny around with it does make a difference.
I'm not sure about the low cfm, I get the feeling mine is restricted by the air gun and the valve anyway so probably the actual flow is lower regardless. But yeah, it is going to struggle with a lot of tools.
I think people get a bit gung ho about compressors, I've got a decent 2 horse 50 litre one now which is handy but I resprayed my motorbike with one very much like you describe, most people told me it was impossible. It was a pain in the arse- lots of waiting for the compressor to catch up- and eventually the motor popped, but it did good.
I had a 25L compressor but took it back for a refund after making my own coke bottle style. Works a treat, seats the tyre everytime. Pump it up to about 75 psi. Cost of a bottle 17p to a compressor at £100+
Gonna give the 6ltr a whirl. Everytime I make a ghetto it starts pissing air after one use. The 6ltr one also looks pretty transportable.
Thanks for the advice.
There are 6ltr Stanley portable compressors on Screwfix for £80 ATM. I think Lidl or Aldi have them coming up in the next couple of weeks or so.
The one I've seen is £66 inc postage...which seems decent considering, although the 24ltr is £75.
