If it was me I'd get the Giant; but I've ridden neither. In fact I'd get the Scott Scale 29, but it's not available over here. Depends what you're after. I've recently been shopping for a 29er to compliment my On-one ti 29er and was going to get a Tomac Flint 29 (see CRC), but in the end the deals in states on Salsa Big Mamas were soooooo good I plumped for one of those 🙂

I've ordered a gf x caliber, just waiting on next shipment in April. The fishers seem to be better specced fir the money, and they seem to get favourable reviews.

Guess the 1 as it's similarly priced to the paragon

I even looked at getting the Giant frame on it's own but not available. LBS offered to strip a bike and sell me the frame, but not worth it for the price. LBS offered me a very good price for whole bike though singlecrack; e-mail me if you want details.

This looks fab but not available

As i see it the main differences are the travel and head angle. What are you going to be using it for, racing ? all day riding & what do you ride at the moment ?

i had whittled it down to the same two bikes myself.
i was err-ing towards the GF, even though i think the paint job is pants, but at the time trek uk(GF importer) had none in the country and didn't know when the next batch would arrive if ever so that kind of left me with the giant, which i got 6 weeks ago and i must say i think it's brilliant. we had 2 giants in our house already so kind of knew the quality of bike i'd be getting but the other thing that sold me was last season giant held back from releasing the 29er as they weren't happy with the geometry till this season therfore losing some of last years sales rather than putting out a shonky bike.
i have the #1 version and think it's fab.

get one quickly!!!

The xtc1 looks great, the paragon paintjob is awful compared to the 09 version. Thankfully the xcaliber looks ace IMO 🙂

fwiw i would go for the Fisher as its got a slightly slacker head angle which should make it feel a bit more stable on the downhills although, in an ideal world, i would prefer the 100mm fork upfront.

You might get some more feed back from people who have ridden both over on MTBR as they have a specific 29er forum. I found it very useful when deciding on sizing for the Mythic Paradox I've just built up.

Which ever you decide on, welcome aboard 😉

The fork on the fisher can be taken out to 100mm easily anyway

In that case i would definatly get the Fisher, the paint job is asthetic and you won't notice it when your on it.

do you think the fisher has a slacker head cos of the shorter forks ?
the forks on the fisher also have a 50mm offset !!

The Paragon is a good deal for the money and rides very well.
Not riden the Giant so can't comment on that.

Can you get a testride on either?

Correct it's a ten minute job.

Its possible as it would be a real handful on the decents with 80mm forks and a head angle as steep as the Giants, 1 degree can make alot of difference.
