i have a half tennis ball sized growth of bone on my right ankle.
been to see the bone doctor today, he is going to open it up and hopefully shave or chisel the excess bone off, to open my ankle joint up, which is almost fused.
he told me it may take up to 2 month to get back on the bike. seem a long time.
anyone had ankle surgery?
As mentioned on here a few times, I'm going in for a plate and pins due to breaking the tibia and dislocating the ankle. 2 months off seem reasonable to me.... I'll race you to get back on the bike first ๐
An unplanned dismount resulted in a spiral fracture of the fibular 5 years ago. The Ti upgrades are still in there and the ankle will never work quite right and every now and then I have to battle with knee problems because of the extra strain on it. But that's because it's the internal moving parts of the joint were messed up and are now slightly misaligned. I think I was off the bike for about 3 months.
As above - 2-3 months minimum. I broke ankle, had plates and screws in, then further surgery a year later to have them removed and other pins put in, along with fusing one of the joints.
Depending on doctor approval, you can probably get on the turbo trainer (light effort) within a month or so, to at least keep things moving.
Good luck with the healing and speedy recovery.
I have a plate and 6 screws on badly broken ankle, i had 2 surgeries but was back walking munros after 4 month
I broke mine Skiing On MIlitary Planks 20 Years ago, A plate and some screws, Fortunately i had it done in Norway where they regularly see this kind of injury, This last week or so where its been really cold my foot is cramping up especially in SPD's, when off the bike under the Arch of my foot feels like something big is stuck in there, i've over compensated for this so now my right hip worn,
It was a long time ago for me but i'd plan on the 2 Month thing, probably 6 weeks but they do tend to be cautious but overall the past few years i've noticed they do like to get you up and about after any form of surgery and start baring weight.
Best wishes for the Op mind and speedy recovery, you want to be ready for the summer.
Have had keyhole surgery 3 times in ankles.
2 times cleaning up slightly torn ligament and tendons 3rd time they also removed some bone.
In all cases i was fine in 2-3 weeks
