Well I've finished the antibiotics and yesterday I was feeling better, but walked in this morning and coughing again. The doc did say they could not be sure whether the ABs would do any good as they didn't know if the crackling on my lungs was viral or bacterial.

Could it be that all I need is a good ride to loosen up and purge my lungs? Or do I need to see the doc again?

I think I know the answer but just a little fed up as I haven't ridden my bike properly for nearly three weeks now, because of this damned cold/cough.

Can't help I'm afraid but I can empathise with you. Had a cough now for the last 2 weeks and for the last week it's been a non-productive chesty cough. After feeling breathless yesterday to the extent of having to sit down, I finally made it to the doctors today and was put on antibiotics. Sat here staring at my new build and the sun outside. ๐Ÿ™

Good luck...it will get better but these things can take time

How old are you? Alpha-1 anti tripsin deficiency?

Being tested for it at the moment. My dad has the gene.

Had a mild chest infection in Feb and although I got prescribed AB's the doc and I thought it best to give it a few days and see if I could avoid it.

The purging via a ride helped alot I have to say!

Crackling in your lungs comes from the alveoli 'snapping' open instead of progressively opening because they're sticky or loosing flexibility. Go back to your GP get a second opinion if necessary. Its probably not serious, but unless its investigated properly, how will you know?

Thanks folks. I might ride the short distance into work tomorrow and see how it goes. If it doesn't do any good then back to the doc I go.

Get a sputum sample tested and then the Doc can give you the appropriate IB. They are just making a best guess otherwise which very often is ineffective. That's assuming it isn't viral, which it could well be.
