Just saw this on pinkbike, buzzing your arse off the tyre never looked so painful ๐

ironic that the rules insist people wear baggy clothes for downhill. she'd have probably been ok in somethign a bit tighter fitting.
Same sort of thing happened to me once but I hooked the back wheel up on a double. Long story short I ended up with a torn scrotum. Nice.
remember those brake booster arches?
had to hacksaw/bend one of those off to 'release' a mate once....

I hope you gave your tailor the sack ๐

really? looked like she was sitting well on the back wheel before she even took off
kimbers, was basing my comment on this;
Her shirt or pants get caught between her seat and her tire which sends her flying. You can also see her bike stays with her because her clothing is caught in it
I have no idea what really caused it but you're right she looked like she was in trouble before she took off.

It did look like my kind of accident, tbh, I tend to just hang off the back of the bike and hope everything sorts itself out at the front before I get there.
Yeah her shorts did get caught but she was waaaay over the back to begin with and low. Doesn't seem likely she'd have landed it even if she'd been naked. Maybe have hit the deck the other way up though ๐
Jeeez....not nice! Hope she walked away OK ๐ฏ
It does look like her clothing was caught up before she got into shot. I wonder what the trail was like just out of frame? - might explain how her clothes had got caught up.have no idea what really caused it but you're right she looked like she was in trouble before she took off.
she sat on the rear tyre just as her front wheel left the lip. if you have no understanding of physics or simply can't understand what would happen in that situation get yourself to your nearest trailcentre and have a go at it, for the best understanding go as fast as you can. ๐
Care to demonstrate GW? ๐

Yeah she doesn't look in control or committed at all, may have ended badly even with less baggy shorts on!
Looking at her riding history, she looks quite experienced, so I'm guessing (or hoping!) 'tyre sitting' isn't the sort of mistake she'd normally make. My guess is that she'd had the bike in a position to get her clothing caught immediately before she got to this bit of trail.she sat on the rear tyre just as her front wheel left the lip.
I had a similar clothing 'issue' a few weeks back with a new pair of baggies. A super steep down into a compression before a steep rise/roller, and the stretch panel on the crotch of the shorts got well & truly caught over the back of the saddle as I moved forward for the rise - ended up taking off and landing (just!) whilst a**e still stuck over back of saddle (there was quite a lot of cursing ) .
I'm coming around to the idea of MT500 lycra shorts!
I did that once, exactly the same except my jump launched higher. Won't be doing it again, broke my elbow. it wasn't right for a year. landed on the front wheel a few times previously and thought I'd get my weight right back. Trouble is, it fully compresses the shock, when it rebounds it sends you over the bars. Lesson learnt.
If you brake you back wheel while in the air the rotational forces lift the back end up. However I would have thought her weight (literally) on the back wheel would have countered this.
The peril of rear wheel rotational inertia being transferred to the whole bike+rider entity! Her position going into that jump is rather weird, on the one hand she's low like she's planning to suck up and squash the jump but on the other hand her front wheel is going high like she's planning to get big air.
I do wonder if we'll see more crashes like this if 29ers start getting used for DH? Way more rotational inertia and much less space between rider and tyre!
A mate of mine did it once going down a rail embankment. Pulled his sack between the seatstay bridge and tyre. He screamed all the way down but couldn't seem to let go of the bike. Expected to find his nuts detached when got down but luckily he'd locked the rear wheel the whole way down and just removed the skin between his sack and rectum. Can only say he was lucky to have V brakes and not calipers.

'luckily' ๐
Watch it full screen and pause it up to 5-6-7 seconds, you see the RH chainstay looks like it snaps !
I initially thought she was trying to bounce it over the jump by popping off the rear, but after play/pause a few times I reckon the seat stay snaps.
