American Classic freehub - alternatives?

The freehub on my American Classic hub has finally given up the ghost after many years of abuse. Original freehubs are like hen's teeth since the death of AC (and the new incarnation doesn't show any signs of restarting hub / wheel production) but there is some suggestion that a few other brands (e.g. Ritchey, WTB) licensed the hub design for their own use.

Has anyone tried these alternative options with any success on an AC hub?

Alternatively, does anyone have a spare AC freehub knocking around in their spares box they would be willing to part with (Shimano or XD)?

Sorry can't help you. I used to love AC wheels and hubs. Still run the wide lightning rims but the moment I heard they went out of business I stripped the wheels, sold the hubs and replaced them with hope pro 4 hubs.

You can pick pro 4s up now at a good price now the pro 5s are out.

Yes, same here.. would be nice to keep them going a bit longer if I can but, if not, Hopes will probably be what I end up with.

An update in case it helps anyone out - I finally tracked an original freehub down from Summit Bikes in South Africa. Very helpful - checked and confirmed it was the right one against the hub serial number. Should keep them going for a few more years!

well done. I ended up ditching my AC rear hub as I couldn't find a replacement freehub. great lightweight hubs, loved the low drag freewheeing from the wierd plate pawl release.
