Try it on the correct forum then!
I'm riding a spesh xc comp with upgraded shock, and I'm now wondering after 7 months if I'm giving it too much hammer! Where I ride regular there's varying terrain with some nice drop offs, good jumps and rooty singletrack. However there's also a couple of areas of very rocky descent that is very unforgiving. Bikes taking some pretty hard square edged hits at times and I'm worried I'm just gonna wreck it. If not what's the kind of things to keep an eye on?
yes.you might also die.
no not really.iv,e got an 06 xc pro and i,ve hammered the hell out of mine on all kinds of terrain.there great little bikes so i wouldn,t worry to much.obviously you cant go proper crazy on one but you,ll be surprised what they can take.
what year is it.
Is this bike made for XC?
And you're riding free ride.
Well you might snap it, listen to noise and watch for cracks.
Email Spesh and ask what it will handle?
You've broken the internets by posting in 2 forums though.
wrong bike, wrong niche. Fail
I ride my skinny hardtail down extremely rocky descents faster than mates on 6'' bouncey bikes - it's fine!
Most bikes will take a lot more than most of us can dish out!
thanks for that helpful response dasnut, you're my hero
only reason i ask is i got the look from the wife tonight after telling her i'd had an eventful evening, bending the front wheel again and removing two teeth from the big ring!
zaskar thats hardly freeride, sounds like xc with teeth to me, learn to ride with a bit of finesse (if you dont already) and you will be fine. i cant do finesse so i overbike myself.
I know that and agree with you slowrider but the frame manufacturers warranty may not cover it or the frame is likely to give way.
Personally its all riding to me but if the manufacturer builds a xc bike and you do drop offs and jumps then don't bother complaining if Spesh say bugger off it was not made for that when it snaps.
If spesh say its fine-keep on doing it.
If spesh say no and you have money for new frames and not worried being off work with a sprained ankle then carry on.
I think you can't define any riding terrain; but manufacturers need to define what they think xc is and whether the frame is likely to snap on us and their warranty.
(I've done everything on my Zaskar frame ;O) )
It also depends on how heavy you are and if you are the type of rider who tries to 'ride light'. BTW my spesh has taken years of abuse without too much bother
Doubt you'll break it.
If you're going to break it I'm in trouble too then, sounds much like the way I ride my Trek ๐
Just keep an eye on the frame, all will be good, probably
Weighing in at 13 stone still! Ill keep an eye on her! The bike that is.
wrightyson - I have a spesh xc comp. Given it some stick too and all is well. As long as you're not a big fatty you'll be reet.
Is your fork noisey?
What shock have you upgraded to?
just ride the ass off it and buy another if it breaks. nothing lasts forever

Great excuse to get a new one.
Or ride the ass out of it and get a warranty replacement if it breaks
they dont make things to last these days.....except an orange five of course.... ๐
@chuck. Spesh did it for free. Upgraded it to the fox triad off the stumpy, I was never happy with the original as it was all or nothing. The lever would either be fully open or locked out! And to be fair they also upgraded the brakes for nowt!
Don't worry if you break it - you've had your fun.
@wrightyson Yes the lever is rubbish on the x fushion shock. I can manage fully open or one click before locked out. Anything in between and it just rattles open.
Is your fork noisey?
My forks are ok for a bit of a budget effort, not had any problems at all. I'd go see your dealer about the rear shock tho, they sent mine off, and because there's a shortage of the fusion ones they've been upgrading people to the triad which in all honesty is far far better!
