Looking to buy a hardtail for trail centers, Ideally with 140mm fork and more geared towards the descents, benn looking at the following bikes. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/commencal-meta-ht-sx-essential-hardtail-bike-2015/rp-prod123520 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/vitus-bikes-sentier-vr-hardtail-bike-2015/rp-prod120721
I open to other suggestions.
Bird
steel all the way, i only ride ht , got a chromag stylus , best ht ever riden and ive had a few , expensive tho,
any of the following buy a frame and spec to what you can afford
cotic bfe,soul
on one 456
production privee
dialled alpine
chromag stylus,aperture
ragley blue pig
Steel for me.
I love my bird zero. The blue looks even better in person.
On One X9 versions of 45650B or Parkwood?
They still do a 456 Evo2 for £1200 if 26" is your thing.
Things like the Cotic and Dialled might be possible for under £1k second hand
If its mostly trail centers your doing then don't rule out something with less travel. 100mm is more than enough for most trail centers riding.
Thanks for all the suggestions the One One 4560b seems to be the best value for money, I really like the bird however with saving for a new DH bike for the summer it really is out of my price range.

The one I have in the classified section wouldn't be pricey though 😉
Last years Commencal even cheaper . http://www.commencal-store.co.uk/PBSCProduct.asp?ItmID=12709870

You did see the £995 one right?

VFM new would have to be an On-One of some description, despite the cheap steel they ride really well and eat up the downhill sections of the trail.
Don't discount second hand, I picked up a Ragley Piglet for £400 on eBay, sold the 120mm fork for £75 and fitted a 140mm Sektor that you can usually get for around £200 these days.
There was a 2nd carbon 456 in the classifieds For £500 or so? Was an right spec too.
I love my 45650b so much so, I hardly use my Nomad these days!
Nothing to do with me but as I have one of these it caught my eye. Great frames

Add to @char34 list, Stanton Slackline/Switchback. 2nd hand Slackline 853 could be got cheaply uf you dont mind a 26er with narrow head and seat tubes. But boy does it ride well.
What made me think clicking on the link to the £995 Bird would be sensible idea? Looks amazing value!
🙂 I got the Zero.2 in the sale over Christmas, but if there wasn't the sale it would've been the Zero.3. The blue looks even nicer in the flesh, and it is nice and light too. It's the most balanced bike I've ever ridden, and manuals really easily too.
I had been looking at 45650b until I found the Zero for < £1k.
Dartmoor do really good VFM ally hard tails...look decent for the descents
Yep, scratch my previous post...Dartmoor Hornet frame for £185 from slam69 bikes, takes 26 or 27.5 wheels, takes forks up to 160mm and is generally lighter than most other hardcore hardtails being aluminium...leaves you with a lovely £800+ for forks, drivetrain etc...
...i'd go for a 150mm Revelation for about £300 from CRC, ZEE brakes currently at £85 at end from CRC, Superstar Tactic wheels on either Switch or Tesla hubs for about £200 and then some kind of Shimano drivetrain, Deore is fine, SLX preferable, Ribble are doing complete Deore 2x10 systems for £140....i reckon you'd have a stonking brand new build for just about 1k right there!
...where's my credit card?!

Would vote for either of them.
I had a Skackline which was great fun but too small for me which has now become a Switchback which is still great fun, but I can comortally ride some distance on it. I sold my Slackline 853 for £200' so that would leave £800 for bits which should be doable. The two downsides are the 27.2mm post and the 1 1/8th head tube. The latter never bothered me but the firmer limited the choice of dropper post to cheap or very expensive Thomson.
