is this a road bike, mtb, full suspension, hard tail, rigid, single speed, jump bike, etc etc etc.
No material is in itself good or bad, it is whether the material is used in the right way for an application.

I quote
"Fire and wind come from the sky, from the gods of the sky, but Crom is our god. Crom, and he lives in the earth.
Once giants lived in the earth and in the darkness of chaos, they fooled Crom, and they took from him the enigma of steel.
Crom was angered, and the earth shook, and fire and wind struck down these giants, and they threw their bodies into the waters.
But in their rage, the gods forgot the secret of steel and left it on the battlefield, and we who found it. We are just men, not gods, not giants, just men.
And the secret of steel has always carried with it a mystery.
You must learn its riddle, you must learn its discipline, for no one, no one in this world can you trust, not men, not women, not beasts... This you can trust" [- steel hardtail]
You can't say that about aluminium, or carbon fibre for that matter

either, if it is well designed it doesn't matter too much.

Nothing wrong with alu or carbon it's just not the choice of niche frame builders and therefore doesn't get the stw qudos.

mid-ninties on the forum lately. Disc brakes for xc, aluminium or steel: what's next? hardtail vs. rigid and oasis vs. blur?

there have been quite a few 'cracked frame' threads on here recently, nearly all been ti or alu.
dont recall seeing any steel, and the only carbon one i saw was iirc attributed to user error.
i feel somewhat irrational about alu, wouldnt want a road bike made from it, yet happily ride an alu full susser.
my honest advice, dont worry about it breaking, it really is pretty unlikely whatever the material.
go ride the ones you fancy buying, then get the one that feels/looks/sounds best.
