...is the challenge to...

a) stealthily buy a bike and hope my gf, to whom I'm getting married next year doesn't notice?
b) stick with my current bike but just ride more than them so I remain better than them?
c) relax on the ride and use the bike as an excuse for mincing?

You simply replace the entire bike piece by piece, by having everything delivered to work, and ensuring everything is the same colour as that it replaces!

This will unfortunately rob of you of that neon pink statement that you were going to make, but you can live without that, can't you

Oh.... You can't? ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you're about to get married the correct answer is

d) buy a bike because you want to and don't need permission from the gf

and remember it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission

Try getting a new bike by stealth.
Just upgrade bits on current bike until you have all the parts needed except frame
Then catch future mrs with.... All I need is the frame

Worked for me and she didn't suds how much I really spent

This philosophy was what landed me in houswork for a month earlier this year!

(I however still have the bike & craftily avoid the dishes thus proving said theory is perfectly feasible)

D: Buy me a new bike and you can borrow it when I'm not using it.

I've seen you ride up at Stainburn. You don't need a better bike, you are good enough on that!

Although need and want are different things ๐Ÿ™‚

I'd love to have friends blingier and faster than me. I still have fun on the downhills, have excuses uphill and there's nobody else to slow you down.

Also, get fitter trying to keep up with them and then either you're all the same speed or you eventually get a new bike and destroy them ๐Ÿ˜€

Some of my mates have worse bikes than me (I'm be genious, mine is way better than most of them and at least a bit better than the rest ๐Ÿ™‚ ).

But I would gladly give it up to be able to climb and decend as well as best of them do.

Dont think I built to make them jealous, just in a very fortunate position that when I upgrade I buy the stuff that magazines (and the STW massive) convince me I need to try and gain a few yards on them.

Easy for me to say, but its not what you ride its how you ride it.

b.

The fact you ride better than them is why they upgraded their bikes in the first place.

B is the best solution but you may want to bling a few bits up, just to make you feel happier.

If it involves debt. No. I don't 'get' people who have multiple mountain bikes either.

Let's face it pook I'd rather be sacrificing buying a posh bike to marry a great woman.

Most STW'ers are single or angry in their relationships and own many bikes.

Sod that if that's the option!

There is no mention of the riding ability..... so presumably you`re happy with that.

It doesn't have to be a choice of one or the other.

I have several bikes and was riding many years before I met my wife. It's a part of who I am and I don't have to choose either a new bike or a decent wife - I have both. If she didn't understand that biking is very important to me, then we wouldn't have got married, but equally I don't go mad (or maybe as mad as I could)

I have to agree that getting into debt to buy a bling bike is not a good thing to do - If you can't afford to buy it you can't afford to run it.

Don't get me wrong. If I could afford I'd be almost Robin Williamseque in terms of bike ownership ๐Ÿ˜†
