I am looking for a road bike with a budget of £1000 give or take.
The bike will mainly be used on Spanish and European roads with occasional UK too.
Brand and colours are not important but I would like it to be good for all day and multi day rides, light going up but sure going down.

Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts of types or brands?

Ta.

I've got a Planet X carbon ultegra and can recommend. Ribble for an alternative. Kinesis Racelight. Boardman are good value but some reviews do say it's a little 'hard' ride wise so maybe not good for all day riding. Ribble also do an alloy winter/trainer/audax which comes in about £750 with triple shimano Altus. A few guys I ride with have these and they are a good bike. Full guard clearance and triple good for mountains. If you wanted to spend the full grand you could substitute in some higher spec kit. Wheels or something.

I might be in the same situation in a while and had considered the Planet X or Ribble.
I just had a look on the Planet X site and noticed this

ALL ORDERS PAID FOR USING CYCLE SCHEME VOUCHERS ARE SUBJECT TO A FEE OF 10% OF YOUR TOTAL VOUCHER VALUE.

Bit cheeky! I realise margins are probably tight and Cycleshceme take 10% but come on.

I have a Boardman and I am not sure I would suggest it as an all day bike.

It has quite a low front end, which means that it's racy but less comfortable perhaps for very long rides (although I am big for my frame size, which makes this worse).

The carbon version is also quite stiff, which is good for power transfer but not for comfort.

Not sure if this is important to you, but it doesn't have rack mounts in case you were thinking of touring.

I'd recommend the PX to anyone, though remember in small there's only one set of mounts.
There's loads in the mix, Orbea would be at home on your rides. Or you could fly the flag with a Condor build.
BTW it's all European.

I know an old boy that does a bit in a bike shop at weekends, and when people point and ask about the expensive road tyres he tells them there only suitable for European roads 😉
