Can some one let me know why the Alfine uses a specific shifter? What ratio does it work on? I am guessing it is not interchangeable with other shifters out there?

Many thanks

Probably because it's designed from the ground up so the shifter is designed to match the hub, rather than trying to design a hub to match an existing shifter

What ratio does it work on?

Pass

I am guessing it is not interchangeable with other shifters out there?

Pretty sure that's right but someone will be along to confirm no doubt.

nexus shifters are interchangeable - so you can have a gripshift if you prefer. Not interchangable with other shifters

Yep, different pull ratio to anything else.

J-Tek (8-spd only IIRC) do a road bar end shifter and Versa do an 8- or 11-spd drop bar road-sti-style shifter. Other than the Nexus options I think that's about it.

Anybody got any idea on the pull ratio? Might have to be a home made job for what I am thinking then.
