Hi - does anyone know if I could use an Alfine RapidFire Shifter - with a Shimano Nexus 8 hub?

so long as it's a red band nexus with a 500 deries trigger (8 speed), yes youcan.

Is there any way to make it work with a non red band nexus 8?
As - I need a coaster break - but the red band does not have a coaster break option

Pretty sure it won't work, the pull on the cable for hub is different for alfine/red band nexus compared to the standard nexus.
Check the hubstripping website - there might be a 8spd SRAM trigger shifter that you can use, but that's a long shot.
