At the weekend I gave my 2 1/2 year alfine hub a bit of an overhaul, firstly to try and reduce the play in the back wheel from the cone/spindle and secondly due to the amount of dirt which I could see on the exposed ball bearing race.
Before disassembling I changed the hub to the 4th gear position and then went about stripping down. I removed the C clip (blue marker facing up) and just removed the two halfs. I left the main gearing assembly alone and just cleaned and re-lubed the the main bearing. When assembling I notice the three smaller outer gears (on the main assembly) had blue dots of paint on them which I believe were on the outside position, so started to reassemble.
Since assembling the hub I have lost drive in the 1st and 5th gear. I have done the usual Yellow dot alignment and these line up fine. I have since removed the wheel and on turning the sprocket the cable holder and gear selector no long rotate (or vice versa) like they used to. Does anyone have any ideas why the hub had dropped this gear?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.....
