How do you think my air shock will hold out in a week of Morzine? heard on the forums about it over heating. Will this be a problem?
it will be hotter than the sun by the end of the trails so get it of to tf when you get back if it doesnt die
Depends what air shock it is and in what condition its in...
Fox RP23 kept the air can serviced regularly may change the seals beforehand
When was the damping oil last changed? I wouldnt worry if i were you (unless you plan on hitting 10min non-stop descents every run).
Don't think the damping oil has been changed. I think I'll get it serviced after the trip as with the forks as they'll take some hammer
If it's not been serviced for a while (if ever) then surely you want it un the best condition before you go, be a nightmare if it failed on you while you were out there. A week in the alps won't destroy the benefit if a service, but a shock failure could end up cost you loads out there (replacing or hiring a bike).
I see your point I'll have to check the prices for mojo before we go.

Yep second that. No point in going out there with a shock not working as well as it can...it'll take the same abuse out there as 3 months uk summer riding.
You know the TF Tuned push tuning can I get that done without the servicing?
Though I throughly recommend a service, realistically if your trail riding and not full on DH-ing, and the shock is an alright condition (damping works & it holds air fine), then you'd probably be fine. I wouldn't worry too much about that thread, the fox air shock were developed in the US afterall, surely if heat was that much of a problem they'd know.. (yes I know the us had cold parts too)
Missed a few posting... No You have the PUSH tune ontop of a service, happily recommend it though. Just got a PUSHed RP23 from them, very good
Yeah might just go with a service as 100 odd pounds seems abit steep atm
My old Patriot 66 has a Dhx air 4 fitted. So far, it has held up for 3 years without a service. I've sold the whole bike to a mate who lives in Morzine. The use its had so far is:
2 years as my daily ride with a week in Morzine, followed by 2 megavalanches, and then a full season in Morzine.
I weigh 15 stone kitted, like loads of sag and rode it like I nicked it. All this stuff about air shock being crap and overheating in the Alps is nonsense. They are far more durable than folk think. Sure, a service is a good thing and will freshen it up, but unless you treat it like crap and never clean it etc. it'll be fine. Save your £100, by a shed load of Mutzig at Bar Robinson and don't worry about it until it gives up.
Cheers gives me loads of confiedence in it :). Probaly better spending the money on tyres and mech hangers

rubbish.=not sure about that
its that time of year again when eevryone wants to go to the alps & worry about every single item on there bike.
its the alps yes there are sections that will test your bike like i do most weekends around west yorkshire .
should be fine, service every 12 months for best performance/peace of mind thou.
what mildred said.
Ah has anyone had their Floats push tuned? Has anyone had the air piston upgraded?
rubbish.=not sure about that
Well lets say you do 8-10 runs per day (min), thats at least 45 runs per week of large alps style descents. How many times a week do you ride, and for how long do you batter your shock on your usual ride?
.
mildred, im not saying you cant run a shock for years without service (been there, made that mistake), but that 50ml of oil in your shock is going to be ****ed! Fresh oil will give you night and day difference.
Why spend £1000s on bikes and not keep them working properly? Its the age old thing that the oil quality dimishes slowly so you just get used to the shock in its worsening state.
Guess it depends on what matters to you, and how much you want to get out of your kit.
