Found out today that the two lads who do the car park at Afan (Jeff and Shaun I think) have both been put on short term temp contracts. One of the lads has worked there for 7 years and unlike glyncorrwg and cwmcarn the fact that the boys are there has had an undoubted effect on bike theft at that centre.

Given that the lads are local and clearly not paid a fortune, it seems to go big time against the whole south wales center of excellence vibe and supporting local jobs that the various local authorities are bandying about.

Any advice or support for the boys, please post and I'll pass on.

tell them to set up their own security firm.

Charge £1 a car to "keep it safe". Should make them enough to get by.

Reminds me of a scam that has been going on in the east end of Glasgow (and i'm sure other places) for years.

Whenever Celtic are paying at home, if you park your car in the east end, some little scrotes will ask you for a few quid to "mind your car". If you don't pay them, you will return to find your car windows put through or scratched all down one side, by the same young lads obviously

My uncle told me (although I do wonder if it's urban legend) that one time his friend parked up his car and the local lads asked for the money to watch his car.

My uncle's friend tapped on the window, and his huge doberman popped up barking and he said, smiling, "no need"

One of the boys replied "can yer dog put out fires?"

😆

Got to admire the entrepreneurial spirit of the proles 😉

That's a real shame. I always take time for a chinwag with those two.
I think that the closure of penhydd has hit them pretty hard, a lot of peeps park up at pontrhydyfen (free) to ride the wall trail. The food at the cafe isn't great either which would'nt help.
