Im looking to get a replacement BB for my cranks as the old one is now shafted (hollowtech 2 type)
I've heard the horror stories about a certain 'superstar' brand which i will be steering clear of.
but as i dont want to spend all my spare cash on a new BB i was in the market for a bargain. i found an Aerozine BB from mtbdirect.
has anyone got one, or used one, or maybe even broken one? im looking for some ideas as to whether they are worth a try or should i just bite the bullet and get a Shimano / Hope one?
ta
Superstar also sell Aerozine............
*rse!
though i just double checked on the s'star website and they say that they import and promote the brand, so shouldnt that in theory mean that theyre not quite as kack as the aforementioned?
Send your BB cups back to BETD for an Enduro bearing upgrade for the same price would be my advice.......... 🙂
Just buy a good Shimano one. They are good and not too expensive. 18 months so far on the original. Same with my GXP on other bike. I seem to have been lucky.
Has anyone got any direct experience of the Aerozine BB's? I mean, actually used them? Not being arsey, just interested if anyone has, and wants to share their experiences.
I have one of the ceramic ones on both bikes -
one has lasted all last year and that included the transrockies, torq 12 (mudfest) etc. still spinning really nicely. Then again my team mate put one on his rockies bike at the same time, seized up not long after we got back although it got replaced by SS and has been fine since.
the other I put on the hard tail (ie winter mud bike) in December and its still sweet too.
well I bought 2 for the price of one shimano one so not too bothered if they don't last as long.
not put them on the bike yet though
Got an areozine BB a few months back so its had 2 months of shitty mud riding.
Just opened he up to regrease and not too bad inside. Some of the grease had washed away but overall pretty good. Regreased with fresh high quality grease and its just as smooth as new.
Ive only used shimano BB before on they are on par with them, but cheaper. I would imagine a hope or CK BB would have better sealing, but if you regularly clean and regrease then not much difference.
I am using one but check what you are buying first as they come with different bearings in, the cheapest being standard bearings, the £30ish pounds plus ones have SKF bearings in and i think there may be another above that.
For the price though they are great.
Shimano Deore HT2 BB's are only £20 though at mtb-direct, not much more for XT either
XT is twice deore is it not? Worth it? Last much longer or lighter or?
The Aerozine bb's with the SKF'S in them are fine, purchased them with a crankset last year for my hardtail. Don't but the cranks though, they have a nasty habit of coming loose on the l/h crank arm coz only one bolt clamps it in place.
I've been OK with the BB, ceramic ones. Seconded on the crankset problems though, very light but I don't trust mine any more.
Oh, hi jacksta!
ive had an aerozine bb with skf bearings on my hardtail for 12 months without any problems
Stop! Hammer Time.
My Aerozine SKF BB lasted 2 months, no jetwash, no abuse.
