Evening all
In a fit of (probably misplaced) enthusiasm, I've slapped down the fee to enter the Wiggle Fallen Leaves MTB ride in early December. Just the Standard though - figured the Epic would kill me
Just aiming to get all the way round - as a not especially fit 48 yo, though one keen to get fitter, I'm not aiming to achieve a particular time; simply finishing will do me. Trying to clock up 60/70 miles a week on my bike at the moment, but East Herts doesn't have many hills, so am expecting the climbing to be a challenge
Any advice from those who've done their first similar ride recently very gratefully received!!
Thanks
Hugh
I got back into Mountain Biking last year and decided to do some Wiggle Events this year as a goal to keep me motivated. You should be fine, there are people of all abilities on the rides, just ride within your own abilities.
If you can get some hill training in it would be an advantage (they have helped my hill climbing no end).
Just enjoy it ๐
Did the Reading MTB one a couple of years ago.
Very well organised, pretty good (but relentless) route.
Good mix of people, from those who were clearly new (like me) to wizened XC-riders, and a few numpty 'storm troopers' in full body armour on 5k 'big rigs'
Thanks chaps
I have to say that I'm probably in the "all show, no go" rider category at the moment!! But I'm hoping to have ground out sufficient miles by early December to make a real fist of things
But I have to say, the enthusiasm of forums like this one is infectious, and is one of the reasons that my bank account is being gradually drained by a wide selection of on-line retailers and bike shops!!
Good advice re the hills though - definitely a part of my riding that needs some time spent on it
