Going to be in Skye next week, so im taking the bike. Staying in Ord, so was wondering if anyone could recommend me any routes in that area? I'll have the car so could always drive up to other riding. If i only have one day of riding, what you say is the rie hat i must do?
Any advice is greatly appreciated, Cheers!
Not done it but the Sligachan loop is the one always recommended. There is apparently some riding up near the Quirang as well. Personally I would take a road bike though. ๐
I was thinking about taking the road bike, but i'd feel bad riding with all the open countryside around me!
I went to skye biking in February, didnt do the Sligachan loop due to the weather and time really [:(] However we did the the Quiraing loop which involved alittle road, but mainly single track riding. Id recommend it, although i will only take a few hours.
The map of the Quiraign route http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=3128 .We did the route clockwise and its about 7miles, if you look at the map you can start from the carpark at the cemetery and go on the single track opersite and join the ridge further along. This cuts out the steep road climb onto the ridge where you could also park the car up. However even doing this requires abit of a push up onto the ridge.
We did have planned to ride the Epic sligachan route, the descent from the Old man of Storr, a loop starting from Torrin(heading down along the coast to Suisnish, looping it back round to the main road at grave yard between Broadford and Torrin) and also start at Dunvegan, follow the road to Glendale, then down the B road heading south towards Ramasaig then follow the cliff top path along the coast to Idrigill point, then north though the Idrigill forest to Orbost then back on the road to Dunvegan.
Couple of shots from the trip
