Hi, I've had a Claude Butler Cape Wrath for around 5 years now that I got to take in to long hill wlk routes, though it has not seen much use. I do like the bike BUT have always felt it was too small - I find that I'm always wanting to push my bum back to get comfy. I bought it at the time based on leg length as I have a short 29" leg length but I have quite a long torso being 5'8".
I'm looking at ways to extend my reach, things like a longer stem (approx £20) and a 'layback' seatpost but my seatpost is already layback so wont get much more from a new one and they are quite expensive too being around £60.
I'm wary that if I buy these parts I may stil not feel comfy and am just wasting my money.
The other option is I buy a new MTB , save on these parts and sell mine. I have seen a similiar spec GT AValanche XC2 at Halfords for £399.
I'm looking at doing a good bit more cycling this summer, mainly good tracks and roads but would still like to be able to have a mtb for rougher tracks.
Any advice on parts for extending my reach or in buying a new bike would be appreciated.
ALso, How much would a Claude Butler Cape Wrath approx 5 years old sell for 2nd hand?

You could change the handle bars as well as the stem some bars are much deeper and have greater reach than others.
s/h value, probably not much, 50% of the original value minus 10% for each year's use doesn't leave much after 5 years.
Other bikes to look at would be the carrera Fury, boardman and there are usualy some bargain Giants on paulscycles.
