[Closed] Advantages of ss specific wheels over standard wheel with spacers
Hi guys and girls , am shortly going to be in need of some new 29er wheels for the single speed , any recommendations and advantages of ss specific over standard wheels with spacers .
Cheers
Supposed advantage in wheel strength - it will make no odds on an xcing 29er
Things to avoid - alloy freehubs on geared hubs - although use of wide based sprockets means this isnt as bad as it used to be.
Screw on freewheels - folks bang on about white ind freewheels but frankly by the time you buy a hub and a freewheel your into hope ss teritory and you have no leyway with chainline
Which has a short steel freehub body so space to move cogs about and mines been ultra dependable. Now its 7 year old and needing a second new set of bearings over that time
In all id rather run std hubs than a screw on
I've never seen the point unless you want to have the "proper thing" that doesn't actually work any better, just costs more.
They look a bit better.
That's about it I think. If it's a really smart SS then it has to be a dedicated rear wheel IMHO. Otherwise go with the versatility that a normal wheel plus spacers gives you.
