Ok I've seen lots of threads where the same tyre recommendations keep coming up, but I've never seen anything comparing the practical impact of the bead and the compound. So my question to the collective wisdom of the STW cloud is: Has anyone seen any comparative tests of the £10 entry level <insert tyre name here> vs the multi-compound, kevlar bead, lightweight etc. etc. <same tyre name>. Virtually all the "old favs" come in multiple constructions with identical tread patterns, but I can't recall ever seeing back to back testing.

Thanks

Do you mean why is http://www.wiggle.co.uk/continental-speed-king-folding-mountain-bike-tyre/ better than http://www.wiggle.co.uk/continental-speed-king-mountain-bike-tyre/ ? Other than the obvious weight difference I've not spotted any, but that's not a scientific test.

If only there was a magazine that could investigate such things on behalf of the consumer.
