After experiencing a particularly snotty couple of rides and runs I have been wondering
1) Why when exercising does your body so much snot?
2) Does the single finger nostril snot rocket reduce your chance of catching colds etc?
3) If you don't get rid of it, what is the calorific value of snot? Possible replacement value for energy gels.
I know Google may provide answers, but am looking for anecdotal evidence.
Snot is there to trap dirt and germs and such before they go through your nose (I think).
Due to there being more dirt when mountain biking, and breathing heavier, I'd guess this is why more snot is produced.
As for shooting it out your nose, sometimes it's the only thing you can do to keep on breathing. You'd be expelling a lot of dirt and germs, but then leaving your nose open..
You planning on eating it?
You end up swallowing a lot by default don't you?
As for the rest of your response, true, but it doesn't answer my questions.
Reason I ask is before a couple of years ago I wouldn't clear my nose, apart from sniffing everything back. Then I changed, ad seem to have less respiratory tract infections. Was wondering if other people experienced the same.

Do you?
I sort of answered your first question, as for the 2nd question it seems like it could be either way, as I indicated.
