Neil, yes the Holy trail is amazing - what a full on tech fest!! Not sure any of us cleaned it really!

Mr agreeable, he just managed to up clip, could have been nasty!!

Looks fantastic. How does the grading of the rides on the Grand Massif compare to Les Gets and Morzine. I got the VTT map for the area when I was in Samoens, last month but didn't get a chance to ride there - was considering heading that direction next trip - like the look of the pictures I have seen of the Desert de Plate - the map show a red grade route from the top of the chairlift that starts in Flaine

These pics are amazing, best to have been posted on here for some time.

Think next year's Alps trip might be veering toward Chamonix now.

Flatlander - the VTT map is fairly hit and miss to be honest. Some of the tracks are good,ie singletrack, others are just long fireroads... ๐Ÿ™„

Its worth just going to the top of Flaine for the views alone....

foolishmiracles - just a Lumix TZ-5, but a great little camera..

nick... yer... cant wait to get back there... have you done the left turn at the hut on that trail... that is steep. makes 47 switchbacks look like a piece of piss.

cham is the best place to go for riding in the alps... just cant get board of riding there...

Great pics there. They give a really good perspective of the scale of the place- I could feel the vertigo coming over me in a few of them.

I'm just back from Chamonix. I did a couple of days in Portes du Soleil but I found the natural stuff in Chamonix much more enjoyable. I did most of the stuff peasnotwar suggested and a bit of exploring. The French National Survey (blue) maps and a lift timetable are all that you need. I ended up walking one section from Flegere down to Les Tines, you are better taking the Petit Balcon back towards Cham. There is a great descent from Col de Balme to Trient on one of the GR5 varients. Le Tour and Les Houches are both worth exploring.

I didn't experience any difficulties with walkers, although nearly all the tracks are technically off-limits. Stop or slow right down and say Bonjour, Merci etc and they are usually very friendly. One old woman told me off, I said sorry, and as I was riding away her friend was pointing out that I had stopped and said hello etc.
