Hi folks,

I have a brand new slx crankset m660 9spd, and existing xt front mech

Thinking of upgrading to 10spd xt rear mech, 10spd xt cassette, 10speed hg x chain,

Already have the slx shifters in 10spd.......

Will I need to upgrade cranks and front mech?

Thanks

the front mech will be ok.

i cant comment on the chain set. but you could just upgrade the chain rings

You'll be fine mate, I've done just the same thing myself 2 weeks ago, using the same components as yourself. All ok here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Being a curious type I got my vernier calipers out and made some comparison measurements between a 10-speed and 9-speed XT chainring... I didn't measure any differences. I suspect they are the same, but they're both a bit worn so can't say definitely.

The difference between 9 and 10 speed rings are the teeth count and the shift ramps. 9 and 10 speed chains have the same internal measurement so the chainrings can be the same width.

Hmm, that's interesting.

I have a Deore 10spd chainset, and I'm looking to upgrade to either SLX or XT and the 9spd sets are cheaper than the 10spd equivilents.

Reading this I can go for the cheaper 9spd ones without issue?

Good stuff, thought as much but sometimes Shitmano throw a curveball.

Cheapest cassette, rear mech, and chain in 10speed seem to be rose bikes anywhere any cheaper?
