I've got a road bike made of 853 and the down tube is bubbling a bit at the back, from salt on the road I guess. Presumably, especially seeing as apparently its a thinner walled 'Pro team' version, it will rust right through at some point in the future?

How long will that take do you think?

Couldn't tell without better pics.

I would get it sorted. Either gentle grade sandblasting and a respray is all thats needed.

If it's gone right through then a welder or proper bike repairer (Argos?) could weld over a hole and rubbed down for a smooth finish?

If it's severe. then a repair and respray-well you could treat yourself to a new frame for the price-depending on quotes.
