as above, im currently cobbling together a hack bike, cant see any reason why it wouldnt work?! anyone think otherwise?

not a chance. 8 spd shifter and 9spd mech would work but 9 clicks on an 8 cog sprocket obviously won't. 8 and 9 spd cassetts are identical width

Everything will work together except for the shifter as the indexing will be out.
