Firstly a recommendation - If you're wanting to visit Kirroughtree, Dalbeattie etc, then Urr Lodge hostel is excellent with very comfortable accomodation and good MTB facilities. The nearby Laurie Arms pub in Haugh of Urr is very good and friendly too.

Secondly, I'm planning on visiting Glentress early next year and as it's a group trip will need to sort it out fairly soon. I'm in need of recommendations for places to stay. I'm happy with hostels etc but don't want to camp.

i can recommend http://www.winkstonholidays.co.uk/ for self catering cottages, 1 miles from Peebles

or B&B http://www.craiguart.co.uk/ (you won't get a better breakfast!) super comfy, very bike friendly and only 750 metres from the Hub at GT

+1 for the Laurie Arms. Great tucker and even brought extra chips to keep our daughter engaged whilst we finished dinner. Top folk by my reckoning.

Have a look at Kailzie Bunkhouse. I haven't stayed there myself as I live 2 mins up the road but it's only a short cycle, through the golf course, away from GT. It's also directly opposite Cardrona Forest which takes you straight onto the Gypsy Glen route which is an excellent natural ride.

Try the glentress forest lodges, no frills but right on the trails and nice and cheap.
