MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Just picked up a nice old road bike with slightly perished tyres.
Looking for something grippy, fast and puncture resistant (if possible) to fit on a pair of Mavic Open 4 CD's.
First road bike for 20 years, so I know nothing about current road tyres - all advice appreciated.
Not looking for touring tyres at the mo, more for lightly laden day rides.
Thanks in advance.
conti ultragatorskins seem to be very good.
most continentals are good but I'd personally recommend GP 4000's.
I have well over 2000 miles on my pair and they've not punctured once. Very grippy in wet and dry too, I really do get the bike over on the corners when I can and they've not let me down yet.
Contis are good, personally I like Michelin pro 3 race. I find they roll slightly faster and the come in red!
I think from previous threads we can acertain that Conti, Michelin, Vittoria and Vredestien! are all without fault (I'm a Vittoria man myself)
I think the top end stuff doesn't have protection, but work your way down the chain and you'll find models with it.
Buy the best you can is all I can say really.
Are you a racing whippet or slightly more burly? I found that GP4000 tyres regularly punctured under the influence of my more burly physique.
the gatorskins are great, I've been commuting on them this year, ridden through loads of glass and never one puncture or nick in the rubber
