Anyone know if a rather old (probs 15 years) 7 speed chain will work on a newish 9 speed cassette? If not will a new 8 speed work on the 9 speed cassette. Will only have to be for a couple of rides until I can get my normal 9 speed chain back on?

Nope seven and right speed chains are wider than nine speed sorry.

Incidentally 7 and 8 speed chains are the same.
