[Closed] 4x4 Spare wheel bike carrier

Mornin' all!

I'm hoping someone out there can help.

I want to get a new bike carrier for my new car - currently have a Thule tow bar mounted one but when its on it means I can't get into the boot. The rack does have the tilt forward doofer but my new boot door opens sideways, rather than up and over (hinged at side, not at top).

As its a 4x4 (Honda CR-v) it has its spare wheel mounted on the boot and so I was hoping to get the rack attached to that. Unfortunately its not that easy. I would like the rack to -
1. Remain on the car semi-permanently, so would prefer it to bolt on the same way the spare wheel does, rather than hook around the spare wheel itself).
2. Support the bikes by the wheels, mainly due to funky suspension designs that means I don't have a full length of top tube to 'hang' it from.
3. The horizontal bit that the bike wheels sit on should fold away when not needed.
4. Still allow access to the boot when the rack is mounted, although I don't mind taking bikes off first (not sure if the hinges will take the weight?).

Any thoughts / opinions? I am basically looking for one of these (Fiamma Backpack), that mounts to the spare wheel bolts.

Does such a thing exist?

Cheers,
D

p.s. I am waiting for someone to get back to me about the (Fiamma Backpack 2) as the picture seems to show something different to the diagram....

I used to use a fairly crumby one on my old jeep. I always felt a bit nervous but it never broke. That famia one looks pretty solid to me. I left mine on all the time and just slung a bike lock round it into the wheel.

One minor point about those ones that hang around the back of the wheel is that if you reverse into something with your extended bike rack, the bit that goes round the wheel gets pushed through the back window. Oops.
