but where are the 650b chunky monkeys and smorgasboards?
is it just me or is the back end looking a lot skinnier on the new frame?
Definitely missing the traditional on one seat-stays and looking more cotic soul.
Does this thing have the slacker and lower 'evo' geometry or more classic 456 angles?
Wwaswas, do you think that's his Will in tucked into the saddle? 😀
andyl - Memberis it just me or is the back end looking a lot skinnier on the new frame?

2 fewer welds innit.
looks like an ace bike.
Are those F1 style camera mounts on either side of the saddle, for forward and rear facing Go Pro's? 😉
Looks like the wheels are slightly too big... Shame. 😉 Looks good, otherwise. Personally, i prefer the old seatstay arrangement; kind of like an On-One brand identity (although i realise it was a bit of a Dekerf homage / ripoff).
Looks a bit 'meh' to me - not an on-one basher; I like the carbon 456 and the evo2, this just looks very, well, ordinary
I wonder if they have shaved much weight off the old 456 frame? Would be nice to have a bit less steel. I'd be tempted to replace my C456 with one as i need new wheels anyway but I am guessing the seat post is 30.9 too (have a 31.6 reverb which is pristine)
30.9mm, Neil's hand, 650Smorgy's are in the pipeline, seatstays were a Commencal homage done wrong, but this one had these as we had to make a new bending mold for the 14in frame and sort of liked them.
Evo geometry of course.
I know it's not been out very long but has anyone bunged 26" wheels on a 45650b frame yet?
Just curious...
For as long as they have a wishbone seatstay, I'll not be having one....which is probably forever then. Can't make it my cup of tea no matter how hard I try.
Rest is nice though and great value.
I love this! Fantastic entry level spec. with lovely geometry.
Well done Brant!
Brant, do you have any pics of the super raw finish?
I'm not entirely sure what people expect from a few bits of steel pipe welded together and offered for sale at a remarkably low price for the spec. It's not going to look like an Evil Uprising frame is it? I guess the proof will be in the riding.
Still seems way more inviting than most of the mainstream £900 junk on the market (canyon excepted of course)
i like the new seat stays, it looks lighter too *
*probably isn't but it's the thought that counts
be bob on with a 26" rear and a rigid fork that

I'm not entirely sure what you think people are expecting. No-one, me included, is really slating it - however, spec aside (that's not what I'm looking at), the above doesn't do it for me, anything like what this does for example...
I don't think the angle helps the first picture.
I love gloss black steel frames, it's so slimming 🙂
Looks like my Orange Clockwork from circa '93 but with a fatter headtube. Still I'm sure it'll sell well to the suckers that think cheap, heavy, flexy steel is still a good frame material.

Ever ridden one?
456's aren't (or at least weren't) flexy in the slightest.

That's rich coming from a man who thinks that a "Made in Halifax" sticker is worth an extra £400.
😉
Steel over alu HT everytime. My old Crush was bloody awful and soon got rid.
It is a terrible first picture. Yes.
The raw ones are awesome. A yellow/orange decal set.
Come on Brant pic of the raw please ive been holding on wondering which to buy for ages.
45650b complete bike? Yes please, sign me up. I'd have had the 26" evo 2 if it had a tapered or 44mm head tube
When is this available? Couldn't see it on the website but that might be down to my inept interweb skills
Quite fancy trying a 45650b with 26" wheels too..anyone tried with success?
Quite fancy trying a 45650b with 26" wheels too..anyone tried with success
I don't get this? Why bother? BB will be lower. Why not use the wheels a frame is designed for?!
Well, marginally lower - let's not pretend there's such a huge difference in outer diameter of the wheels. I currently have decent 26" wheels, so do not want to buy 650b. Also, this frame is dropper post compatible (more so than 27.2 anyway) and headtube size (to give fork choice) not available on 26" wheeled version of 456. To get something similar in 26" would mean spending a fair bit more on a frame.
I was thinking that too, half an inch lower BB and the stays are within 3mm in 18".
Wheels I'm not so bothered about, rims are cheep and I can build them myself. Tyres are consumable, if I didn't need new ones alreasy, I would in 6 months, so new ones aer no big deal. But forks are relatively expensive and last a fair while. Suppose you could put a 650b rear wheel in there, and run the forks at 150mm, then it'd be the same as 650b at 130-140mm. Like Faust, I'd be more interested in the big headtube than anything else.
45650bC, with 30.9 seatube and a 44mm headtube would have me reaching for the credit card though!
Fair enough I take back what I said, I can see the sense in what you are saying faustus (and thisisnotaspoon). It doesn't apply to you but I do generally think that unless you have a specific reason then stick to what it's designed for - unlike those frankenbikes where people chuck a 29 front wheel in a 26 rig and suchlike just because they can. But with your point about the dropper and forks I can understand why you'd want to experiment with that.
Back to my first post on here though, when is the built bike out? I have seen frame only on on-one but not the build alluded to with Sektors at £899.
Looks really nice.
Skinny stays, will they 'give' any?
Being launched next week. I think it's Monday or Tuesday. Thanks for the interest!
Launched as in on the website for sale brant?
Just debating between building one or getting the complete bike
I don't get this? Why bother? BB will be lower. Why not use the wheels a frame is designed for?!
The difference is so minor and TBH I kind of like the idea of a "business" and a "party" wheelset in either size...
Launched, as in for sale and ready to build and ship.
Yes, very nice that.
High BB. Ride OK still?
High BB. Ride OK still?
It has a 28mm BB drop at rest with a 140mm fork.
That's 11mm lower than a 456, which is good because that's the wheel radius difference.
With a 140mm fork, the BB will drop 1/3rd of the sag, so another 15mm say.
This will give a ride height BB of 352-28-15=309mm, or 12.1in
I think that's a good BB height for a trail mountainbike.
Does look great that.
Full Deore and sectors is a great build too for the money.
Not many budget bikes get Shimano.
Looking forward to seeing pics of the Raw.
I don't get this? Why bother? BB will be lower. Why not use the wheels a frame is designed for?!
What's the difference in outside tyre diameter between:
* a 650b wheel with a 2.1" tyre, and
* a 26" wheel with a 2.4" tyre?

Whilst I see your point, wbo's going to run a bike like a 456 with 2.1" tyre? More like a 2.4" and 650b. 650b is always going to be 1/2" further off the groud.
Apparently you wont get it now till the end of March....ffs.

We're working on that. I'm quite sure with some extra air miles we can get the forks (the missing link) here faster.
So do we have any pics of the super raw?? Why release it without the pictures?

Not sure why super raw isn't shot.
It's same finish as 456evo2 raw but with a new orange/yellow decal.
Why buy this over a board man then?? Not for me.
Trying to convince a mate v a board man at 12kg with X5....
My feeling are Shimano is better (opinion) and this is cooler 😀

The Boardman is a pound lighter, fair play. Other than that...
They're not really the same sort of bike this and the Boardman, I'd say the Boardman is probably a better first bike, but if you're riding is going the a 456 kind of direction then this is a bargain. I specced one up the the Planet X website earlier with a reverb and silly wide bars, was very tempted for £1050, but the wife may have actually killed me.
I'm stuck with my Rockrider for at least the next year it seems.
My post did not read very well....
I am trying to convince him the On One is better....
I also told him to take less water if he was worried about the extra weight 🙂
Just some anecdote of gnarliness of steel would do 😀
As I say... I can't wait for the Parkwood.
That's not helping. End of March I hope!
Ordered the frame, should be here tomorrow, fitting 150 talas, and full slx running gear, should be great craic, a good back up to the alpine 🙂
brandt
We're working on that. I'm quite sure with some extra air miles we can get the forks (the missing link) here faster.
Whats that supposed to mean? sooner? this cryptic stuff isn't fun in the slightest when your bikeless.
Snb123... Yes. Trying to air freight the forks in to get the build completed sooner.
That said, email me. Mail in profile.
Looks good. 🙂
There you go snb123, every time you ride your new bike you can think of all the extra CO2 emissions your impatience has caused because stuff was air freighted 😉
If its the same raw colour as the evo2 then I'm getting one 😉
Is there any plans for a 29er in the raw colour this year?

handybendyhendo tell your mate to fit the racing ralphs to the on-one and they'll be almost the same weight!!
And when he's sick of fixing punctures he can fit the Ardent's again!
I think it could be the first on-one frame that I've actually liked the look of! Much prefer the new seat stays.
Oh my God... the Carbon 456 Evo looks amazing... When is it going to be for sale???
Raw looks lovely.
So everyone has fallen for the 650B marketing guff?
DezB... was thinking about a steel frame and looking at the 456 anyway. Makes sense to buy a 650b rather than a 26er even if im going to use 26 wheel and fork for the time being.
No problem with it. Just wondered, after the "backlash" threads on here, it now seems to be accepted.
I can never quite understand how people get so excited over the looks of a hardtail. It's basically 2 triangles. Cheap hopefully. I had a 456 26" which was fine. If it aint broke why fix it eh? But all this marketing guff makes money for companies and all our spares redundant
all this marketing guff makes money for companies and all our spares redundant
Spares are only redundant if you fall for the guff 😉
Tyres? I've got a shed full
Oh crud, all the parts from my full susser would swap straight over to that C456 evo (except the headset which is borked anyway)
That colour scheme looks great
all this marketing guff makes money for companies and all our spares redundant
Not really, most of the time people buy new bikes because their old one got so old that either/or:
a) the cost of a new bike is more than the cost of getting it back to 'as new'
b) it's so old that technology/geometry/wheel size really has moved on and riding would be more enjoybale on something 'new'
c) 'three** year itch'*
*can be a bit like B, but often results in buying a 2nd hand frame, or just likes having something new once in a while.
** anything between one and infinity
Besides, your bike may be perfect, good for you, I don't own it you do, therefore I need to keep buying new bikes untill I find one that's perfect like yours :-p
c) 'three** [s]year[/s] month itch'*
ftfy
c) 'three** year month itch'*ftfy
With bikes that's just Hora, anything else you need to get some ointment for that.
I haven't had the itch for ages, but it's getting to that time of year when you look at the fleet and wonder where to prioritise some improvements over the coming months and start running the man-maths to make it happen.
I've already bought a medium Whippet frame on eBay to replace my small frame which is too small, should make a profit on the deal as the frame came with some very nice bits that I don't need. Next day I see the new version of the one frame I regret selling, so I'll be working on some maths, selling some spares and probably my Transition TransAM and getting some Evo geometry in my life. Awesome.
So this 27.5 inch 456. Can someone please explain to me in easy understandable words (I'm a bit slow) does it ride the same as a 26 inch wheel 456? The original was fun down but a bit of a slog up as I had Fox 36 RC2's on front. What difference would the new one make?
It looks nice and shiny but we all know how thick the Chinese like their paint on the old frames.
It's only been for sale a week!
I had 150mm Marzocchi Z1 RC2's on mine, it was a dog uphill too, but it was great with 130mm forks. So I'd put that impression down to the weight/travel of the fork rather than the frame, just my tuppence. I think Brant summed it up (over the 456Evo) as different - yes, better - no, fun - certainly.
