Hi all,

I'm trying to find an interesting easyish 4 day touring route. Punctuated with pub stops and campsites. Easy off road, or mix of off/on road.

Thought maybe there are some C2C or similar routes. Anyone know of any??

Cheers

starting/finishing where?

how about a pootle around the cotswolds?

or take a look at OSM cycle (available from teh dropdown here) and pick some sustrans routes to follow - they tend to alternate between road and easy off-road (gravel) and they keep the gradients down.

Last year we did a Sustrans route, but 90% road. That said, 90% of those roads were like this....

...And I wouldn't do it on anything other than an MTB ๐Ÿ™‚

It's Walney To Wear (Google it) but we split off to Whitby then on to Scarborough. 30-40 miles a day at a slow pace leaves loads of time to take in the views, eat cake, stop at village stores and farm shops for provisions, and have the odd pint here and there ๐Ÿ™‚ I find it extremely relaxing, oddly. It empties my brain.

We (Well, I, mostly) tow a trailer with the camping and cooking gear in it, which works well.

If this appeals I'd HIGHLY recommend picking a Sustrans route (They sell maps on their website) as they are well thought out, use traffic free cycle tracks and the odd byway where possible and well waymarked. It just takes the hassle out of touring, although I do use pre-prepared OS maps with the route on for peace of mind (I photocopy, mark the route and campsite details on them, then laminate back to back)

Devon and Cornwall here

Last year we did the coastline of Devon and cornwall (Not all of it!) which was also good but very VERY steep! The Lakes and Dales have long gentle glimbs by comparison.

Inspirational pics and ideas, ta.

We're Bristol ish, but happy to travel to a start point. That makes me think that if its a one way, we need to think about transit the other way at the end of it!

You might be able to read it off the pic below - we bailed out and rode out to pitlochry in the end or email me (inprofiles)I can send you a mmemory map file or a detailed description

In brief from Callender sustrans route to a few miles before killin then along glen dochart on an old railway towards crainlarich WHW to kingshouse ( missing some tricky bits) choice of devils staircase or round the road to kinlochleven, big climb up east past Mamore lodge to loch eilde mor then on to the abhain rath down to loch trieg - ( this is the only hikabike section) then corrour, loch ossian and then north to Loch laggan, road to dalwhinne and down the a9 to dalnaspeil then glen garry to kinlochrannoch we intended to ride south to bridge of balgie then road to killin and back to callender but bailed out in the rain to pitlochry

Train to Skipton, ride to Kettlewell via Flasby, Malham, Arncliff. Camp/pub. Ride up Ooutershaw down to Bainbridge, up Dale to Hawes push up Cam Fell, down to Helwith Bridge. Camp/pub. Ride to Skipton via Malham, Weets Top and Bell Busk.
Best of the southern Dales and nothing too technical. Best early summer for the song birds.
